Robert (Bob) J. Quinn Appointed Director
The Board of Directors of Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. (the Company) is very pleased to announce that Robert J. Quinn has agreed to accept the position of Director for the Company.
Robert J. Quinn, based in Houston , Texas , is a founding member of Quinn & Brooks L.L.P., a boutique mining transactions law firm, and the Managing Director and a founding principal of The Mined Land Company, a start-up brownfields investment company focused on properties with historic mining impacts. Prior to forming Quinn & Brooks L.L.P. in 2003 and Mined Land in 2005, Mr. Quinn was a partner with Baird Hanson Quinn LLP beginning in January 1999. He has over 25 years of legal and management experience in the mining industry and was formerly Vice President and General Counsel of Battle Mountain Gold Company, a NYSE, S&P 500 precious metals mining company which acquired, developed and operated nine mines in five countries during his tenure. Prior to joining Battle Mountain in 1985, Mr. Quinn was a natural resources attorney for Hecla Mining Company in Coeur d' Alene , Idaho and for Holland & Hart in Denver , Colorado and Cheyenne , Wyoming . He currently serves on the board of directors and on various board committees for Mercator Minerals Ltd., a TSX-listed copper mining company with operations in Arizona , and Formation Capital Corporation, a TSX-listed cobalt mine development and silver refining company with operations in Idaho.
Mr. Quinn's broad domestic and international legal and management experience includes the due diligence, negotiation and documentation of over $2 billion of mergers and acquisitions, over $600 million of corporate and project financing, over $200 million of engineering and construction contracts, numerous exploration and joint venture agreements and the permitting and environmental compliance programs for several mining operations. He has served on the board of directors for junior public companies and on numerous joint venture committees. Mr. Quinn also has extensive experience with corporate governance, public disclosure, governmental affairs and land management issues. He has had in-depth exposure to mining projects and transactions in Arizona , Nevada , Colorado , Washington , Montana and Idaho , as well as internationally in Australia , Bolivia , Canada , Chile , Indonesia and Papua New Guinea . He formed and led, as U.S. general counsel of an Australian client, a litigation team that in 2003 obtained a verdict of $164 million and a settlement recovery of $101 million against an international engineering firm over a negligently prepared feasibility study for a failed copper mine in Nevada.
Great Western Minerals Group continues to advance its goal of becoming the only fully-integrated Rare Earth producer in the world in its efforts to develop the 100 percent- owned Hoidas Lake rare earth deposit in northern Saskatchewan . The Company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Great Western Technologies Inc., owns and operates manufacturing facilities in Troy , Michigan , currently producing advanced materials for the alternative energy market.
